I'm thinking of offering my D. Wright for Longoria/Beckett. Wright can't be kept, Longoria can be kept for 6 years, and Beckett can be kept for 5. I don't want to get too caught up in the hype over Longoria so I figured I'd run it by you guys. Thoughts? Team is in sig.

Where are you in the standings? My first reaction is to say why not, especially with the keeper scenarios you mentioned. But I hear you - I'm just hoping Longoria makes the most of his All-Star appearance so I can maybe fleece somebody on an upgrade. Will he keep this up?
bobcat7
I'm in first by about 8 games, it's a H2H league. I will probably throw in Headley since he is the one I would probably drop.
Daver
Why would you make a deal like that while in first? It's a great deal for the future, but Wright is likely to have a monster second half and I think the deal hurts you this year.

If it ain't broke...

I might be hesitant to shake things up with an 8 game lead at the halfway point...
The Game
You want to win first, keep second. You're winning... I'd stick with what you got, unless you felt you really needed to get Beckett to bolster your pitching.

Helping my pitching was part of my thinking. So many people are so high on Longoria I wasn't sure that the drop from him to Wright wasn't worth Beckett and the keeper status. I'll be getting Soriano and Ortiz back after the ASB so I figured that would make up for any drop in production this year and I'd still get Beckett. But this is why I check with you guys, it's easy to buy in to the hype.

As the contrarian, I say make the deal. Just because you're in first doesn't mean you have to shut your eyes to the future. If Beckett helps your staff than I don't see why not. Longoria is a GREAT keeper and you should be able to handle the drop-off in offensive stats when you get Papi and Soriano back.

I agree - I'd make that deal in a heartbeat - 6 years and 5 years?? Definitely take my chance on that, and especially in a 10 team league where you can drop a pitcher for a replacement 3B if Longoria isn't working out during the 2nd half
bobcat7
I guess it doesn't matter because he rejected it and said that Longoria was the best keeper in the deal (true) and that Beckett was the best player in the deal (crazy). I offered him a similar trade back just so I could comment and tell him he was crazy, but that probably didn't increase the likelyhood that he will trade with me.

I don't see any hesitation on this deal. Wright is great, but Longoria is the real deal. he raked all through the minors, and he has raked on a somewhat feeble Rays offense. Plus he gets clutch hits, and that's a huge indicator of success

Finally, in a keeper league, which makes more sense? 6 years of Longoria and 5 of Beckett or one and done with Wright

This is a no brainer IMHO
