A second round pick? That is it?!?!

I am excited about Price as much as the next Habs fan, but this move makes me a little nervous and the fact that they only got a second round pick for Huet doesn't make me feel any better!

It's 4:13pm and the dealin' is over. The Habs missed out on Hossa and the possibility of a steady influence for Price in Hedberg. I'm not a Habs fan but they must be disappointed right about now.
From Gainey's point of view, he probably did the right thing. Just look at what the Pens gave up for Hossa. As far as Huet, the only angle I can see is that he is a UFA and nobody wanted him. The 2nd rounder is ANA through the Sutherby deal so they are looking at about a 55th pick+/-...not so strong.
Personally, I own Hossa in my $$$ pool so I am pretty happy he will be playing with that PP unit!...AND, I own Morrow who may have increased in value (if possible) by putting Richards on that PP.

Huet is barely worth a second round pick. He's an OK goalie. That's it. Kudos to Gainey for getting anything for him at all.

Montreal got to where they are now with strong defense and by capitalizing on the power play. They don't need any more pieces for this puzzle.

They probably could have used a player like Peca to lead on the ice and in the room. Koivu may be a "quiet" leader but I think that they need an in-your-face guy to get under their skin a bit. Lapointe would have been good for this and that's exactly why OTT got him.
On the positive side, Kovalev seems to be taking the bull by the horns. When has anyone EVER heard Kovy suggesting that the whole team should be playing better defense???

Huet may be a free agent at the end of the season but they are putting a lot of pressure on a 20 year old!

As a Habs fan, I was shocked about the trade. I thought the move was going to open up a trade for Hossa and Lehtonen. In the end, I'm glad they didn't get Hossa - never really liked him, and as you can see what Pittsburgh had to pay, thank god Gainey didn't pull the trigger on their asking price - 3 roster players (Higgins I'm sure would've been one of the players), 1 prospect and a 1st rounder. Would've messed with their chemistry a little too much.

In the end, you lose a goalie, and turn the reigns over to your young stud. Other Montreal goalies turned out to be ok after being thrown into the fire, so we'll see what happens wink.gif

After seeing what Toronto got for Hal Gill, you have to think Gainey could've gotten a little more than a draft pick - perhaps a roster player as well. Maybe he pulled the trigger too early in the day, but at least Gainey got something for Huet.

yeah, i am really glad they didn't pay for Hossa. Pittsburgh paid an awful lot for a guy who has never performed in the playoffs
