Full Version: Can I afford to pick up Mat Gamel

Currently in my bye week in the playoffs, and sitting pretty at 2nd place in my 18 team H2H keeper league. I am currently low in waiver priority (16th), and wondering if I should even bother "attempting" putting in a claim, given my current situation.

I have Jonathan Sanchez ready to be deactivated off DL. During his DL stint, I had picked up Eugenio Velez to help me out at 2nd base with Kinsler also on the DL, and Figgins out a couple weeks ago for a few days. I don't mind dropping Velez now that Figgins is back, which would mean, I'd have to activate Sanchez to my active roster. This is all before even attempting to pickup Gamel.

With that in mind, I'd have to drop someone off my active roster to "attempt" to pick up Gamel.

Who to drop? Rafael Perez? (Team 1 in my sig - keep in mind Neshek, Soriano, Kinsler and Sanchez are currently on my DL)

Should I even mess with my roster now that I'm in playoffs? Or should I stand pat and not bother putting a claim in? Then I wouldn't bother activating Sanchez, and have Velez as insurance in case Figgins re-injures himself? Not activating Sanchez won't hurt me too much, as I have plenty of SP. I do realize that if Gamel's on my roster, he'd currently serve as backup to Aramis Ramirez.

Help me decide!

I think I'd hold off. Gamel isn't going to be getting regular AB's for the Brewers as they make a push for the playoffs and he'll mainly be used as a pinch hitter. I don't see him getting enough value that it's wroth dropping someone from your roster.

If you start to see the Brewers give him more consistent AB's I'd jump on it, but that's not the future I see when looking into the crystal ball.

How long can you keep him for and at what price?

Dynasty league, so whole rosters are carried over year to year. My position currently stands on not picking him up in fear of what Havok said
